Default Another weak play on my part

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (6 handed)

Preflop: Hero is SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].
UTG folds, MP calls, CO folds, Button folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: (3 SB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, MP raises, Hero folds.

Final Pot: 3 BB

I still haven't mastered playing top pair/no kicker, and I felt like the pot wasn't big enough to test my skills here. Still, I feel like this is a huge leak in my game. Any comments are much appreciated as always.

Don't fold top pair for 1 bet heads up in a SH game, especially on a board with such obvious draws.

I call then go for a check/raise on the turn. Top pair no kicker short-handed is strong.

I don't want to give a free turn card, I'd prefer either 3-betting and leading or going with a stop and go.

Didn't read the board carefully, I probably stop and go. Personal preference I think. Both are likely to get similar ammount of bets out of him.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm afraid I'm not sure what you all mean by, "a stop and go" though I guess I could guess.

Good advice here, as always. I feel I get a little less weak/tight everyday.
