Re: Vegas or LA?
Cool. thanks for the responses.
I didn't realize the rakes were so bad in LA. I've read on this board that the games at the Commerce were some of the best anywhere. So, I guess I'm surprised no one picked LA. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] There are plenty of nice places to live around Vegas and in Henderson that are still cheap. Are the places in LA nicer? [/ QUOTE ] not that the places might be nicer per se, but the fact that living in los angeles might be a better life experience as a whole than in las vegas. [/ QUOTE ] I would agree with this statement. While I'm not a huge fan of Los Angeles as a city...quite frankly, it beats Las Vegas in terms of a place to live full-time. If your only interest in life is playing poker then Vegas might be right for you, but if you want a more comprehensive experience I think you'd want to be in a more substantial, metropolitan area. Of course if it were me, I'd just move to the Bay Area and try to make do there...but again, I'm no fan of LA. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
Bargon, you didn't mention what limits you were interested in, but my choice would be LA. Nothing to do with the aesthetics of either city, it's just that there are games at your level always going at Commerce, the Bike, etc. I go to Vegas about three times a year and find I often have to wait until certain times in the day to get into a game: At Commerce, anything from 1-2 to 40-80 is going all the time, and your wait is rarely longer than 10 minutes.
Good luck. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
I think if it were 2-3 years ago I'd pick LA without hesitation. Before there were only a few casinos (comparitively) spreading poker games in Vegas. LA poker rooms had more tables as well. So,the selection in Vegas wasn't nearly as comprehensive as LA.
But there has been a lot of activity in Vegas casinos since then. Just about every single casino in Vegas now has a poker room, and a lot of the existing poker rooms have expanded substantially, etc. so I think the game selection in Vegas has surpassed LA in many areas. And the dealers in Vegas are better IME. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
If flying into LAX it's a no way. LAS all the way. If flying into Orange County, it's an even choice. LAX has a lot of delays.

Re: Vegas or LA?
You are just going to play cards?
There is no way Vegas wins this and it's not even close. Now if you tell me you want to get wasted and bang hot chicks, Vegas wins hands down, but nowhere else in the US can compare to commerce... sorry. As for which is better to live in for a professional player... depends: LA: More [censored] to do Much better live games Way more [censored] to do Close to Mexico and the beach Vegas: No state income tax Cheaper cost of living No state income tax Loose bitches Your choice... |

Re: Vegas or LA?
I have only been to cali once. So to add another question to the thread. Rank these 3:
Vegas, LA, or San Diego. I am not sure how many cardrooms/players are in the San Diego. Only got to go to LA. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
Now we're talking!
That's the kind of response I was looking for. A clear statement of the pros and cons of both. TheMeteron may be my new hero. |

Re: Vegas or LA?
I think Nick forgot to mention No state income tax in Vegas.
PS: Commerce for a poker trip, there is not other place that comes close. |
