Re: why blyleven?
Rich Lederer has said it much better than I can, and much more than I care to. I'll link you to a couple of articles.
Bert Blyleven: Up Close and Personal Bert Blyleven for the Hall of Fame The basic argument is that Bert was generally screwed by his teammates, had a few great years, and was a hell of a pitcher for a long time. He wasn't Don Sutton-light, he was better than Don. He was better than Ryan. He was better than Palmer. |

[ QUOTE ] Speaking of Tommy John, when is Dr. Frank Jobe going to get in the Hall? I can't think of one single off the field "incident" that has impacted baseball more than the ligament transplant surgery that Jobe first performed on John. He belongs in the Hall of Fame as a contributor. [/ QUOTE ] Holla [/ QUOTE ] So now that at least 2 people agree with me about this, anyone want to start a movement to get this done? I imaging that with a little press, the Jobe candidacy would get rolling real quick. |

[ QUOTE ]
brett, the comparison isn't as absurd as you make it out to be. Dwight's '85 was better than anything Koufax did. [/ QUOTE ] nah, that is absurd. koufax was insane. in a world series game 7 when the dodgers could have pitched a hall of famer in drsydale w/ 3 days rest, they pitched a koufax on two days. it ain't all in the numbers. plus, koufax pitched in more pain than gooden ever knew, outside of withdrawal. edit: yea, 85 is ridiculous though. but hall of fame ballot considers careers not seasons. |

Re: Baseball HOF Ballot...Anybody Getting In This Year???
yea, his last 5 years were obviously the sickest. but first, he didn't get many opportunities early. and second, the three cy youngs, two series mvps, and one NL mvp speak for themselves. one sick year but 5 of that caliber, yea.
also note that the first half wasn't bad enough to have is era be over 3 or anything like that. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Morris wasn't so great. His WS performance was badass, but that alone doesn't make him a HOFer. My thought is, if you can remove one game from a player's resume and make him look less than HOF-worthy, then he shouldn't get in. [/ QUOTE ] Which of his 254 career wins do you want to take away? [/ QUOTE ] I'd like to forget that he was ever on the Indians, so you can have those ten. [/ QUOTE ] LOL! Good answer. |
