Shark or Donk? Preferred image?
I was wondering, especially live, what image you prefer to convey to the table.
I feel like in tournament play it's definitely beneficial to come off as skilled, as fold equity is significantly more valuable in tournaments. In cash games, however, it's less clear. Do you prefer more action? More Respect? It seems to me that getting more action is optimal, since respect will only win you small pots. Thoughts? |

AAAAAAAAAAAAAACTION edit: this question is too general, it really depends on a lot of things. [/ QUOTE ] I figured as much, but I couldn't think of what exactly it would depend on. Also, if you want more action, how do you pursue it? Make image plays? Be flamboyant and talk a lot? I feel like I lose too much money at the former and spew tells doing the latter. Maybe I'm just bad. |

This 100% depends on your opponents at the table.

you should be more concerned about how people view you, not how you want to be viewed.

But, interestingly enough, I'm capable of being concerned with more than one thing at once, and if I'm capable of manipulating how people view me, it's more straightforward to judge their judgements. |

This usually depends largely on which shades I'm wearing.

Re: Shark or Donk? Preferred image?
Ok, but you said when you try and talk a lot you feel like you're giving away too much information. That will effect your play. So, what do you want me to say? Be loud and obnoxious to encourage action. You want respect at a table. You want to make a great call against a loose aggresive player and a great bluff against a tight player. It's easier to read a player when you know they're adjusting their game to you.
PS: I mean, youre talking about making acting a certain way to encourage your opponents to make a bad call/bluff/fold/etc. TELLS TELLS TELLS. That's all you're doing. |
