Poker Essays (Malmuth)
In Poker Essays, Mason Malmuth had some estimates about bankroll requirements (BR) and hourly expectation (HE) for various games. Comparing 10-20 limit for a "good" player, he wrote:
Limit holdem. BR = 4900, HE = 20 Stud. BR = 3200, HE = 20 8 or better. BR = 1500, HE = 25 Looks like 8 or Better is far and away the best deal. A "good" player can make 20% more than both holdem and stud. And he can do it with half the bankroll of stud and a third tha bankroll of holdem. Has anyone here had enough hours multitabling both holdem and 8 or better? Do you agree with Mason's estimates? I believe this book was written in the early 90s so he may have been off. |

Yes, played correctly against weak competition, stud hi/lo has the lowest variance, followed by omaha hi/lo, holdem, then stud.

Re: Poker Essays (Malmuth)
I get the feeling, though I am not sure, that you will have much better luck finding a soft, fun 10-20 Hold Em game than a soft, fun 10-20 8 or better game.
The other problem is that good players tend to sap an 8 or better game dry in a hurry (both Omaha and 7CS). This "consumption" rate tends to make it harder to keep these sorts of games going in places other than extremely large markets such as LA or LV. |

It is very difficult to find good stud games. |

Re: Poker Essays (Malmuth)
i've been considering leaving hold'em to play O8B as my mainstay, because, I play it light years better than i play hold'em. so yes, O8B is great, but if you play live it's hard to find.

What's the best pokersite at which one can at least four-table 8 or better? Do you know?
