Was I brain dead?
Okay,I sucked out at the end of this hand, but I think my thought process was still valid. Below is the hand, followed by my thought process. Keep in mind, at this point the table was very passive and it had been a long time since the pot was raised pre-flop. Post-flop it seemed to fold to any bet.
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (7 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx MP1 ($66.30) Hero ($25.75) CO ($19.75) Button ($9.15) SB ($66.35) BB ($20) UTG ($94.05) Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 2 folds, Hero calls $0.50, CO calls $0.50, Button calls $0.50, SB completes, BB checks. Flop: ($2.50) 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets $2, CO raises to $5, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds, Hero calls $3. Turn: ($12.50) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero checks, CO bets $4, Hero raises to $13, CO calls $9. River: ($38.50) J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players) Hero bets $7.25 (All-In), CO calls $1.25 (All-In). Final Pot: $47 My thought process was as follows: I limped pre-flop because I had okay position and was fairly sure I would not be raised. If I was raised, obviously I would fold. On the flop I attempted to steal with a small bet. This was probably a mistake. However, when I was raised, I was thinking that I was probably against top pair, trying to price out a flush draw (The mini-raise was not big enough to price it out based on pot odds). I figured that if a club came, It would be a good opportunity to bluff. The club came, and he mini-bet. After thinking for about 20 seconds, I made a real raise with air. In this situation, was this a good opportunity to bluff, or should I have folded? |

Re: Was I brain dead?
You need to be wearing sunglasses to make this complicated play.
Buy in full, play abc at this level. Unless you don't like money, and only want to picture yourself on ESPN at the final table. Then your play is perfect. |

Re: Was I brain dead?
Dont even consider playing J8o preflop in this spot (or another spot either (nl cg, esp. this level) imo).
On the flop, give it up (check). As played, fold to his raise. On the turn, fold to his bet. River - The bet is Ok as played given he has only 1.25 left. |

[ QUOTE ]
Post-flop it seemed to fold to any bet. [/ QUOTE ] So when it doesn't here, you should know to get out of the hand already. Fold PF. Fold flop. Fold turn. |

Re: Was I brain dead?
The way you played this entire hand in a word: Awful.
Limping with this hand preflop from any position is very very bad. Calling the flop reraise with an imaginary flush draw is even worse. Representing a flush on the turn is not awful if you think you have fold equity. River is a no brainer. |
