I'll start first with "Real Genius". Just watched it the other day, and was surprised at how the jokes were still funny, and the message still relevant. The final 5 minutes of the film, with Tears for Fears' "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" as the kids play in the popcorn and William Atherton rolls up to the house is one of those perfect blendings of song and film.

I still use many lines from Real Genuis in my day to day life. Whenever anyone asks me if I run, I reply "only when chased."

Vision Quest is the first I can think of
Top Secret (as long as we're hailing Val Kilmer comedies) |

Pretty in Pink [/ QUOTE ] Pretty in Pink gets plenty of respect when 80's films are brought up. We are looking for less likely choices. |

Real Genius is one of those movies that I watch any time I catch it on the tube, I love it.

I'll throw out "Streets of Fire." A scorching Ry Cooder score, a soundtrack featuring the Blasters and songs written by Tom Petty and others, a leather-clad Willem Dafoe as the bad guy, Michael Pare (Eddie Wilson from Eddie and the Cruisers) as the good guy, Diane Lane looking sooooooooooo hot, Amy Madigan punching out Bill Paxton, and Walter Hill's seamless action movie direction, capped with a climactic fight between the two leads using sledgehammers. Look for Robert Townsend as one of the members of The Sorels.
