Re: Bay 101 - 20/40 semibluff hand
[ QUOTE ]
Don't believe the hype Dazareth. KT = easy call preflop against a player who will raise all underpairs, QT, JT, etc, and who is willing to auto-3-bet the flop when you choose to play. EASY call. Fearing domination here getting such good immediate and implied odds is silly. Of course, if you know in advance that he is going to give you lots of action, that he is going to put in 3-bets on the flop with anything, then it would be foolhardy to try to check-raise bluff him, now wouldn't it? Check call the flop. -Eric [/ QUOTE ] Now that you mention it, it does seem pretty ridiculous to checkraise with a gutshot, knowing that I'm probably going to put in a 3rd bet. I guess the reason I did it at the time was that I felt there was a decent chance of me being able to push him off a weak hand. One of the issues that I've been running into at Bay 101, is that I tend to play ABCish poker, and even some of the bad players will notice this given enough time. So I feel that I need to work some advertising plays into my game that are not too -EV. I posted this hand to see people's thoughts on the play, but it seems like the general consensus is that it was not a good play. |

Re: Bay 101 - 20/40 semibluff hand
My 2cents:
PF Call Flop bet/call turn check/fold I'd fold this turn since I'd be afraid he'd check behind if I made my draw (K or Q) and thus I'd have to bet it myself. T is not a very good out here. But I've played the hand just like you several times before...and learned my lesson. |

Re: Bay 101 - 20/40 semibluff hand
one thing that i would recommend is that if you feel a weakness in your game is that you play ABC poker and arent capable of making +EV moves, yet you feel you need to advertise for action, make your moves when you are in position instead out of out position. the other players at this level almost certainly wont realize that this is the case.

I have a question...
If you bet the flop, do you think he raises, calls, or folds? And if he raises, will you raise, call, or fold? If you bet and he raises, you've tested his faith in his hand. If you think he'll raise with anything, you can call and then bail if the turn is no help. Lastly, I think the responder who said that a semi-bluff requires the possibility that opponent will fold for an important percentage of its value was quite correct. I think that the moral of the story is that one's standards are only supposed to be loosened a little against LAG's, according to most authorities.

I would call a raise preflop against a LAG opponent here, even with the $4 rake. Against standard opponents I fold, even in the time charge games.
