They were saying that the dome there can stand up to a 200mph storm so who knows. The eye is now 29 miles wide.

the problem is the whole damn city will be flooded severely, maybe even to the dome. if the surge hits 30ft I think the worst is possible

Is this thing powerful enough to rip the roof off the Superdome? That would be tragic.

People are going there for shelter.

Those people may be [censored]. If I were in NO right now and had no transportation to get out, I would take off running north. Now.

Edit: Another reason to get out is the aftermath. The newscasters are talking about no water and no electricity infrastructure. That is, nothing left to repair to get electricity back to NO.

I'd like to see some video of it. I hope someone has a camera mounted at the shoreline.

There are long lines outside of the superdome. WHY ? Are they using metal detectors on each person as they enter ? WTF ? Come on, it's a hurricane. They said that to use the restroom once you are inside, you have to be escorted by the National Guard.

Apparently, they are only letting people with special medical needs in right now.

well when you have how many ever people that will be staying in the dome, you kinda need to make sure that the operation will be safe throughout the hurricane.

I live in baton rouge, about an hour north west of New Orleans. The one the that many people don't realize is while the winds are dangerous, but the main problem for New Orleans is the up to 30ft storm surge. If this kind of storm surge hits New Orleans it will devestate the city which is below sea level. My best wishes to everyone else in this storms path.
