first impressions of new ebay table
Summary: Not completely awesome -- worth the price I paid, but only that.
I paid $114 for the table, $100 of that for shipping. The pictures of the table on ebay: another table like it by same seller Well, it took a long time to get here (bought it two weeks ago Friday night, didn't get payment through until Monday, got table on Wednesday of following week), but it's finally here. It's not as great as I'd hoped: the rails are much thinner than the ones shown in the picture. And the drink holders are really shallow, as with other cheap tables. It seems sturdy enough, but not exceptionally so: pretty much like one of those big (6 foot) tables with the foldout legs and pressboard tops you can get for $60-80 at an office supply place. The felt is pretty cheap, and I don't know if it will shed yet (haven't been able to get a game going in the two days -- I've been busy!). The big problem with the felt is that I don't see how one could refelt it without destroying the table. It looks like the felt was wrapped around the table-top, then a rail was wrapped on, and it's STAPLED on the bottom underneath the table! I'd post pictures to show you what I mean, but I don't have a digital camera or a scanner, so getting pictures and getting them scanned will take a bit. Yes, the table is ok, and I'm glad I have it. But I'm also glad I didn't spend more than $114 for it: it's worth just about that much. And since I really don't have much more than that to spend on a table -- the better tables are $250 and up, plus shipping -- I got as good a table as I could. I just sort of hoped it would be nicer... The moral of the story is that you really do have to spend a lot more than $100 to get a truly awesome table, unless you can build it yourself. (Or wait for a year or so for all those great tables to be ebayed because no one is playing poker anymore!) |

Re: first impressions of new ebay table
You'll spend close to $300 on materials alone if you build your own table, plus about 8 hours of labor. It was well worth if for me, because there is no way in hell I would play on a cheap ass table like the one in the link you provided.
Moral of the story, you get what you pay for. |

Re: first impressions of new ebay table
Thanks a lot for posting this. I was considering purchasing a couple of these tables. I think this is a little less than I'm looking for though.

Re: first impressions of new ebay table
Huh - I got this exact table for free (inc S&H) through ECasinoDeals. I love it.
But that's probably because I didn't pay $200. Even if I did, though, I think I'd be happy. |

The seller doesn't look to reputable. He has 97.4 % positive Feedback. For a high volume eBay seller, anything bellow 99% is considered poor. feedback [/ QUOTE ] i bought a set of chips from this [censored] before and she sent me the wrong [censored] chips TWICE and it literally took 3 months to get everything worked out |

I paid for my table on a Friday night, money was taken out immediately but "credited" on Monday. I got my table on the following Wednesday, 10 days later. It was shipped FedEx ground, but still, 6 business days later is a lot (assuming shipped on Tuesday). And I got NO shipping information, not even a confirmation of payment email. Not good. But the quality of the table can't be blamed entirely on the seller (although the picture was not of the exact same table): I knew it was a relatively cheap table if the seller was willing to put them up with a minimum starting bid of 10 bucks (plus $100 shipping)! I've only bought about 3 things on ebay (besides chips from 5star), and all transactions were great. I guess I didn't know that 97.4 was really bad! Live and learn. In the end, I like my table. I wish I had the skills or the money to build or buy a better one, but I don't. Sooner or later I will. |

Still, you can build a decent table for a lot less than $300. I spent $130 on mine, and that included $20 for the hole saw I needed to install the drink holders. It took less than 8 hours to make, but not much. One big money (and time) saver was that I used an old student desk for the base. It's sturdy, and there are drawers to hold the chips and cash box. |

Re: first impressions of new ebay table
I'm one of the suckers that bought this ebay table. (It's coming in the mail. I'll post when it arrives.)
The thing is, I didn't buy a shitty table to keep at home. I wanted a portable table. I've been considering building a nice table for a while now, but when I do, it'll be nice wood, expensive cloth, and a cherished posession. Oh, and heavy as hell. I bought this ebay table because it's PORTABLE. I play in a rotating home-game, and it's only at my house 1/3 of the time. I wanted a table I could toss in the car and lug to a friend's house. Perhaps I could make one, but I expect this table to get pretty beat-up. I think I'd get sad every time it got dinged or damaged on it's traveled, if it was something I made with my own 2 hands. -Sam P.S. If the table's really as bad as everybody says, I'll be more energetic in refelting it and replacing cup-holders and so forth. If I destroy it in the process, looks like I won't be losing much.
