Re: Floormen, managers, dealers: Want to be an expert witness? (long)
[ QUOTE ]
Wow. You guys are a lot more sympathetic than the OOT crowd, which was split. I appreciate the advice such as "never sign anything", but in my opinion (and it seems, in the opinion of most here), I didn't do anything wrong. If they want to fire me for that, I don't want to work there. I had the oppurtunity to appeal my dismissal, but chose not to pursue it--I had no interest in working there. Don't feel bad for me. I'm happier since I left there. (I'm not mentioning the name of the place, because I have a lot of good friends who deal there, and they're already suffering from lost income because the place drives away the customers--and I don't wish to contribute to that. Besides, most of you who live in this part of the country, already know which room I worked at.) Come on, guys, I need letters. It only takes a few of you. If you'd like to volunteer, but the daunting task of typing an entire letter seems like too huge an investment in time, then I'LL type one up, send it to you, and you can print it and sign it (if you agree with what is on the page). I'll even Neteller you the 37-cents for the stamp. [/ QUOTE ] I'd write a letter about various mistakes I've made and seen... but I haven't actually worked for a poker room... everything I've dealt has been home tourneys and bar games. If there's anything I can do, I'd be happy to... but I'm not thinking my word will mean much to an administrative law judge considering I don't have dealer school training or a gaming license. |

Weingarten rights for non-union employees were struck down last year in a Supreme Court decision. [/ QUOTE ] Really? That sucks. I guess I shouldn't be terribly surprized, though here in the Bush era... |

More than the micro, small stakes, and WPT crowds . [/ QUOTE ] That is probably true. I didn't mean that to be as negative as it sounded. When the OP posted this in OOT it was split, you could tell from teh responses who was familiar with B&M poker and who wasn't. |

Actually, it was a ruling by the National Labor Relations Board and not the Supreme Court (I was posting after 2 hours sleep). But the rest of the info is accurate.

Re: Floormen, managers, dealers: Want to be an expert witness? (long)
Hi youtalkfunny:
I'm sorry but I have problems with your story. In all my years of being around cardrooms I've never seen a dealer forget to take the rake. I've seen them take the wrong amount on many occasions, but neglecting by accident to take the rake is not in my experience. Now I'm not saying that you're dishonest, but I am saying that it would be surprising to me if anyone of any competence will state that neglecting to take the rake is a common error that dealers will occasionally make, even if they are tired and have been over worked. I don't think you have much chance, and if I was you, I would begin to look for another job. Best wishes, Mason |

Mason,
I have to disagree with you on this one. I have seen dealers forget to rake on a fairly regular basis. Typically it occurs when there has been a large bet that hasn't been called yet (no rake due yet) and then the player facing the bet takes quite some time to decide on a course of action. As a general rule anything that deviates from the normal flow of the game can cause the dealer to make errors. I know when I have dealt and missed the rake that doing the same thigns over and over I still pull the dro slide when there is no rake on it. Randy Refeld |

I've certainly seen the floor at Foxwoods sweat a dealer and correct mistakes in rake, including the dealer forgetting to collect.
Then again, it was Foxwoods, so whaddya 'spect? |

You have the option of Discovery in arbitration: make discovery demands for the tape, and written questionaires to be filled out by anyone you can think of w/ info ie: the casino staff (interogatories)
Maybe you can find a way to refute your little statement forced out by the rubber gun. |
