Are GT+ Table Stats skewed by player sample size?
I think the answer is yes.
Take, for example, the VP$IP stat. GT+ adds all the data together and takes the percentage. This means that if I'm at a table where I have, say, 2 players with 1000 hands and VP$IP of 10% and 7 players with 100 hands at 33%, GT+ will display a table VP$IP of 16%. I would argue that the more useful number would be an average of all the players percentages which would be 28%. This number gives a better indication of what the play at the table will be like. No? |

Re: Are GT+ Table Stats skewed by player sample size?
I think the most recent version of GT+ allows you compute a raw average for table stats instead of weighting by the number of hands.
I agree that the raw average is more useful. |

You are correct. The new versions allows you to select either a weighted or raw average.
I think a better option would be a raw average with a minimum number of hands requirement. |

I think a better option would be a raw average with a minimum number of hands requirement. [/ QUOTE ] Right, because the numbers get skewed when a new player comes to the table and his stats don't represent his true averages until he plays a reasonably sized number of hands. I would like to see a players stats ignored until he plays 10 hands and then phased in on a weighted average in three to four increments until he has played about 50 hands. I don't think the straight average usually skews the value as much as the earlier weighted average system though. |

Brilliant. Thanks for the tip.
RTFM as we used to say. |
