Is the abuse really as bad as you guys make it out to be? I've only played in a B&M about 10 times. Once in Colorado, and the rest at Trump's in Indiana. The worst I've ever seen is someone look a little pissed about a suckout. So if I go to the commerce what are the chances my table is it going to be like a drunken hockey game? Is every table and night like this, or are these more isloated incidents?

Yes I have and it seems unbelievable. But with so many tables you could have incidents like this every night and it still only be 1% of the players. Is it wide spread? I also ask because Californians have the reputation of being laid back.

Personally, I find there's more cantankerousness at the lower limits at Commerce (or anywhere in LA) and that it gets better as you move up. But yes, compared to anywhere else I've been, LA players are the most obnoxious. And it's not even close.

It's more like 5% of the players than 1%.

I just don't understand why the Casinos don't clean this up. It would be so easy. The one hurdle would be that they all do it together.

I worked at a Harness track for several years and they had sucessfully cultivated there "group" of jerks. I say cultivated because their bad behavior had become worse over the years simply because the track had allowed it to become that way. Most were good tippers and all of them wagered large amounts weekly but overall as group they were losers.

Finally, we got new management. Within 3 months of the new general manager seeing tellers berated, guys screaming at "recreational" customers, etc. they decided to crack down hard on these idiots. At first they acted tough and gave them the "I'll just drive to track ABC" and I'm sure some of them did. But within one year every single one of them were back to being regulars and they were some of the best behaved little boys you had ever seen. They LOVED the track. They absolutely could not stand being away from it. Even though they were overall losers they would have literally done anything to be able to come back and play some more.

I willing to bet if the Casinos just made a verbal agreement to correct this that it could be cleaned up fairly quickly and easily. I'm also willingly to bet that these "donators" that everyone is so worried about losing would still be hanging around but they would be much better behaved.

I also believe this would be a +EV for the casino. Personally, I don't care how juicy a game is (within reason), if the table has a complete idiot, I'll just move along or go home and play internet poker in my underwear.

Have you ever seen Ricky Jay's act? I think he wrote a book, Playing Cards as Weapons, or something like that. He can puncture the skin of a watermelon with a card.

Even if you don't care for the card throwing, if you ever get a chance to see him, take advantage of it. He's terrifically funny and a fantastic magician. You've seen him in a lot of David Mamet's movies.

There was a fantastic profile of him in The New Yorker a few years ago. He's apparently the world's authority on rare books about magic and scams in addition to being one of the greatest close up magicians in the world.

He's great in 'Deadwood' too.

jj is a good example of the difference between a vegas fish and a ca fish. in vegas, you are playing against a construction worker from wichita who really doesn't have a clue. he's like hooking a big carp in a lake. you just reel him in, nothing fancy.

but the ca fish is like hooking a trout in a stream. he fights, he tries to wrap your line around a rock, and might even play dead. he might have been hooked before. you have to play him just right to get him in your net.

jj is educated, speaks 3-4 languages, and has a lot of esperience at the poker table. he's also a compulsive gambler. he just likes the action, and can't be bothered to learn things like pot odds or hand values. but he already knows how and when to put pressure on his opponents.

did he have the goods? not likely. but if you are afraid to look him up when he bets into you, maybe you should find another game.

That was a great post with some great insight.

As for my hands vs. JJ, I couldn't look him up because I made the mistake of playing back at him during all of our confrontations and he came back over the top. And since this was no limit, rather than limit, I didn't have the heart to call him down with all my stack with A high.

2 times I felt were a little suspect but the other time I was pretty sure he had the goods.

During my time playing with him, I felt he was a very capable player but not so sure if he was thinking on that third level or not. But your description of him, the whole lv vs. la fish was great.

On a side note, I was wondering how you would rate the following LA pros I am sure you have played with. If you don't care to, I understand.

Joe C
Aaron K
Pete K
