Default Is my way of thinking correct here?

I'm wondering if I played this right or if I was being too fancy here.

Ultimate Bet 1/2 limit (10 players)

Hero is BB with 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Preflop:UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, UTG+2 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 folds, CO checks, button folds, SB folds, hero checks.

Flop:3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5SB)
Hero checks(if there wasn't 4 players behind me I would have bet. In this situation I'm likely to get at least two or more callers and will probably not have the best hand by the river.) BB checks, UTG+2 checks, MP1 bets, MP2 folds, hero raises(figured I'd shut out the other players here and get it heads up) BB folds, UTG+2 folds, MP1 calls

Turn:3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img](T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img])
Hero bets, MP1 calls

River:3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img](2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img])
Hero bets, MP1 folds.

I think checking inteding to raise is ok here.

I think the flop play is right on, and turn seems automatic. I don't care much for the river bet, however, unless opp is a known calling station. Even fish fold small pair in smallish pots, and your kicker is poor. It would be a horrid bet, IMHO, versus a competent opponent.

I disagree, I think this is a perfect value bet

Could you explain, please? My thinking is that this is a standard "Is he likely to be ahead IF he calls my bet?" situation. Even if you forget trickiness, I'd think a good opponent is not going to call your river bet with less than a better 8. It's true that you're probably ahead, but the only relevant cases are his possible hands where he calls, or, god forbid raises, your bet.

Honestly I've seen opponents in this situation call with A-high, bottom pair or a PP less than top pair.

Different experiences, I guess. My usual result, when betting this river, is a raise that isn't a bluff

Good line. What would you have done if the bet came from your left?

Looks fine to me, including the river bet.
