Jets Ban Beer Sales for Monday Night Game Against Patriots
WTF! I'm going to the game and they ban beer!?!?!?
Jets Ban Beer Sales for Monday Night Game Against Patriots 2005-12-20 13:05 (New York) By Pete Coates Dec. 20 (Bloomberg) -- The New York Jets banned beer sales for their Dec. 26 home game against the New England Patriots in an attempt to head off problems with inebriated fans, the team said. No beer will be sold for the 9 p.m. National Football League game at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, although fans can still hold tailgate parties in the parking lots, Jets spokesman Ron Colangelo said. It will be the first time in four years that the team has banned alcohol sales at a game. He said the decision was not prompted by an incident at the team's last home night game on Nov. 27 when a man was arrested on charges of stabbing two others in a stadium restroom. The victims were not injured seriously. ``It's precautionary,'' Colangelo in a telephone interview. ``It's the holidays and a lot of people are off from work. We don't want fans to overdo it.'' Colangelo said the ban isn't part of a policy for all night games for the Jets, who are 3-11 this season and in last place in the American Football Conference East Division. ``It's not something we do all the time,'' Colangelo said. ``We monitor the schedule year-to-year and make decisions accordingly. We try to use our best judgment.'' The game will be broadcast nationally on ABC's ``Monday Night Football.'' In January, a jury ruled that Aramark Corp., which operates concession stands at the stadium, must pay $75 million in punitive damages for serving beer to a drunken football fan who crippled a 7-year-old girl in a car crash. The incident happened after a 1999 home game for the New York Giants, who share the stadium with the Jets. --Editor: Sillup |
