Default right time for an overbet?

I'm thinking that either i got incredibly lucky on the turn and he was slowplaying an 8, and thus will probably call, or he missed his flush draw and won't be calling any bet. Sound logic?
(I know i should have bet more on flop and turn and thus the overbet wouldnt have been as big)
