Well, it's difficult to berate him based on what his perception of you was. Whether he was right or wrong, if he felt you were stealing too often he was right to play the hand, although it would've been better to bet into you on the flop then check-raise, it would've made you commit more chips since, if you had a real hand, you would raise him.
