Default possible theif - what do I do next?

Just for a little background information. I live in a small apartment complex in a college town. It isn't close to the downtwon area, but there are a few ghettos nearby. In the last 4 months there have been numerous robberies in the neighborhood, i.e. cars getting broken into, grills getting stolen off back porches etc...

I have met with an officer twice, once after my grill was stolen and another time after my neighbors car got broken into about a week ago. He asked us during that time if we were going to be in town during the holidays, because he said that holidays are when most of the theifs love to hit student apartment complexes (obviously b/c most of them are out of town)

Come to today, the day before thanksgiving, and probably 75% of people in this neighborhood are gone. I wake up today around 2pm to an old Marroon 4-door driving slowly around the complex honking his horn every 30 feet or so. He circles the place 3 times, honking his horn every circle.

The only thing I can gather from this car is that he was doing this to try to find out who is home and who isn't. I have a good feeling that there might be some robberies in this area tonight, but I don't really know what to do next.

So far the only thing I've done was call the police department and let them know about the suspicious activity and described the car to them as best I could. They said they would send a squad car over to patrol the area a bit, but I'm thinking they won't have one patrolling here at night when the robberies are most likely.

Any ideas of anything else I could/should do?
