Typical.
Politicians without principles value power. Part of keeping their power is to not alienate their voters. Anytime they can claim both sides of an issue then they can tell both sides I voted with you. E.g. Kerry and clan acting pro-war when the polls were favorable and then doing a 180 now the polls show falling support for the war.

The Republicans out-maneuvered the Dems. The Dems that voted for the war now want to play both sides of the issue by VERBALLY declaring that they now opposed the war and want the troops home. So the Repubs called their bluff and put it to a vote . Now the Dems faced an ackward situation. If they voted for withdrawal they would be accused as weak cut-and-run cowards. If Bush43 succeeds in Iraq, then they can't claim any of the credit. The Dems took the politically expediate course. They have no principles except to regain power.

You got to give credit to the Repub leadership. They shut the Dems up.
