Default Simple preflop question

Say open-raise on the button with KJo and it's 3-bet by a somewhat aggressive SB and then capped by a tight (17/10 stats at 6max) BB. Is this a clear call? (Would the answer change if the betting was capped at 5 bets instead of 4?)

Also, say you call the cap and the flop is J 6 3 rainbow. SB checks, BB bets, you raise (this is correct in the big pot, right?), and BB 3-bets. You call. Are you check-folding unless the turn brings a K or J? Let's say that you have played against this BB for 100-200 hands, and haven't to this point seen him get out of line (= show down a hand where he played aggressively when it was weak at that point).

I just want to make sure that I am hitting the right balance between getting to a lot of showdowns shorthanded and using common sense to estimate the likelihood I can win a showdown.
