Default The Variance of Stud

I'm just curious to know how people view the variance of Stud vs. a game like Hold 'em. People have told me that it can be worse than hold em, but it wasn't until I started playing that I realized just how crazy it can be. I'll go an an incredible run, pulling down every other pot at over 10 BB/100 hands, and then suddenly hit a BRICK WALL. Suddenly, no starting hand is safe, my flushes are beaten by full houses over and over, I'm missing every draw, etc. Eventually I go back on a hot streak, and my bankroll reaches its previous level, at which point the downswing promptly begins again.

Do good stud players experience this often? I'm typically a decent tight player, close to 20% on 3rd street, don't chase with improbable draws, etc., but there are times when I'm hitting everything, and other times when literally every single monster hand I have is getting destroyed by an even bigger monster. I don't know what to do...
