Default 3-betting flop for ???

is this appropriate?

villain is 17.3/12.6/1.78 after 530 hands

i don't think my raise is really for a free card as the subject indicates because if he has an ace there's only 2 cards that will help me. so is there any point in raising? i've 3-bet before in situations like this, and sometimes on complete bluffs, so is such a move profitable? if i'm not going to raise i can't see calling as a good choice because certainly he'll bet out again on the turn. should i call down? swallow my pride and give up my krangs?

edit: looking at this again maybe it's appropriate and then follow it up with a bet on the turn and folding to any further aggression by him. ja?
