Op says the military is conducting the war to support freedom. So he's brought up himself the conduct of the war. If he truly wanted to keep discussion of the conduct of the war out of the discussion, he could have posted the following:

I think it would be nice if we could say a few words in support of our troops in the Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Let's leave discussion of the conduct of the war to the many other threads, and just show our appreciation of the courage and personal sacrifice of our soldiers.

But instead he injected politics into the thread. Which, of course, was his obvious intent.
