Preseason rankings do mean a lot when determining which conferences are overrated or underrated. When several ranked teams from a conference lose to unranked teams, a strong argument can be made for that conference being overrated. Conversely, when several unranked teams from a conference defeat ranked teams, a strong argument can be made for that conference being underrated.
