Default NBC News 9-2-2005

Earlier this week, I was watching the news sparingly in between classes. I didn't really give a [censored] about what was happening in the Gulf Coast region, I just thought it was another typical hurricane hitting a city, etc. etc. We saw it all last fall in Florida.

NBC did an hour special tonight, with Brian Williams live from LA. I can't remember exactly where he was. Watching the news tonight has changed my perspective of the events of this week by 100%.

A whole region of our nation has been destroyed. What's worse, to me, is the duration of time it has taken to mobilize any sort of relief effort. People are getting murdered and raped, there is no food or water, there has been no law or authority, and people are literally living on highways.

I really, really hope that everyone realizes the immense gravity of the situation. To me, it's unbearable to watch. And this is coming from an insensitive 22yr. old douche who generally doesn't give a [censored] about things outside his bubble.

I know not everyone watched the NBC news broadcast, but if you did you know how moving it was. If you haven't taken the time to really think about what's happening to other Americans on our soil, I wish you would take a minute to understand the enormity of this tragedy.
