Default Re: code word for hijack

[ QUOTE ]
It's not really a word, it's a code called a "transponder code". It's a 4 digit number that you can set on your transponder, and these identify your aircraft to ATCs. Besides the codes that the ATC assigns you, there are a few numbers reserved for emergencies. The one for hijacking is 7500.

On older transponders, each digit has it's own dial. An ATC will frequently assign you new codes as you get passed on between controllers, and you need to dial in the new codes. Suppose your old code was 6500, and the ATC assigns you 8544, you have to be careful not to dial the first dial first, because you will pass 7, temporarily squaking 7500 and causing this sort of thing.
