Round-up: Amnesty Cuts (NBA)
By the August 15th deadline, 18 players were cut in total. Where will they go? Why was it the "Allan Houston" rule ?? Here is the final tally of player released by their teams to save on the $61.7 million luxury tax.
Alonzo Mourning-Toronto Derrick Coleman-Detroit Vin Baker- Boston Eddie Robinson-Chicago Howard Eisley-Pheonix Wesley Person-Miami Reggie Miller-Indiana Michael Finley-Dallas Jerome Williams-New York Ron Mercer-New Jersey Calvin Booth-Milwaukee Aaron McKie-Phily Brian Grant-LA Lakers (agent says he will sign with Pheonix) Derek Anderson-Portland Doug Christie-Orlando (agreed with Dallas on 1 yr/$3 million contract) Clarence Weatherspoon-Houston Troy Bell-Memphis Fred Hoiberg-Minnesota Any surprises? I think my only surprise was Doug Christie, who really wasn't making that much (8.2 million) and didn't play terribly in Orlando. Also, Allan Houston not being cut is dumb, since he was owed $40 million more, but that's New York for you...why would they finally do something right with the Knicks?? |
