Default what does it take to be a great player?

I don't know what does it take to be a good player? no wait a great player? Sometimes i feel lucky with a pocket fours. Then i see something like two players move all in before me and decide to fold. It was the correct fold, but i would have won by making sets. And i'm thinking maybe i should have made a lucky play.
Then i see people who go all in with those hands in similar situations and win the tourney. Is that what it take to be a great tourney player decide to get lucky? Seems so looks like the people that play that way win the big bucks. They say that people who don't play on luck and play well will win out in the long run, but i don't see it. Should i be changing my moves to lucky plays for tournies?

Anyone who has had great tourney accomplishments help..
