I submit this as a cautionary note to all honest on-line poker players. Perhaps, I stink at poker. If so, all my money deserves to go to those players whose skill or luck exceeds mine. However, what I am about to present goes beyond the scope of normal online competition...and I hope any person who violates systems, manipulates data or otherwise cheats consumers from their hard earned money is brought to justice and their actions exposed.
Last evening 7/14/05 I experienced one of the most truly disturbing at PokerRoom.com. I was playing in a very low stakes NL ring game (.25/.50 blinds.) It was a full table with a good deal of chat banter occuring. After a few "bad beats" handed to a few of us by a player, to whom I shall refer as M&M, several of us expressed our frustrations via chat. As you may expect, player M&M whose "good luck" seemed uncanny, mocked many of our play and dared us "losers" to take him on. Well, a couple of us did not take kindly to Player M&M's responses and words got a bit ugly, playful but ugly. Imagine grade school humor and insults. Another player, I'll call Player ALL-IN, and I really must've struck a nerve in Player M&M, because even though we we're losing to him, Player M&M believed we had "insulted his mother." And that really seemed to bother him. Player M&M then challenged both myself and Player ALL-IN to a 3 way head-to-head-to-head challenge in which Player M&M claimed he would "take both of us out... to the last dime in our accounts." Player ALL-IN created something called a private room--something I had never been to before. It was a locked out room to which entry was made by invitation only. Within a few minutes, after considering this "challenge," I arrived in the room finding Player ALL-IN and Player M&M there. I put $150 on the table. Player ALL-IN put $100 on the table. Player M&M put in...$1.90!!!! We played the first hand to discover Player ALL-IN had created a Limit table rather than a No-Limit table and Player M&M was not happy, but claimed he'd "still get our money anyway." Well, he wasn't kidding he won about 10 hands in a row (.25/.50 blinds remember.) Suddenly, Player ALL-IN left the room. And I was now with $146 playing against Player M&M, who had now built his $1.90 to around $7 in about 2 minutes. Me and Player M&M played heads up. He seemingly had the uncanny ability to know when I had the advantage before the flop...and would fold...and when rags would hit...of which I had no part...he would raise and show the rag winners. In just under three minutes, I was down to $134 and Player M&M was up to $15. This is not particulary odd or strange--I can admit I am not the best poker player and concede losing 30 hands in a row...but here's what happened next. Player M&M stated: "I told you losers not to mess with me. Don't ever make fun of my mother again!" He then said " I KNOW you, dude. I KNOW you." I paused, "know me--how?....have we met before?" He said "I KNOW when you will lose and I KNOW that I will win." I was stunned. Player M&M continued, "You and that other loser picked the wrong guy to joke around with. So take this as a warning." I asked, "Are you saying you KNOW my cards, my style of play, the outcome of the flop???!! What the heck??" He stated, "Let's just say I am a computer genuis and I get paid a lot of money each year. I get paid $125,000 a year for my work." Then the moment got more bizarre. Another player, THE EXECUTOR, enetered this private room! And put $9 bucks or so on the table. At this point, Player M&M told THE EXECUTOR, "unless you want to lose all your money, please leave. This is bewteen me and him (referring to me.)" THE EXECUTOR enetered a pot. M&M won the hand. M&M again repeated to THE EXECUTOR, "dude, I don't want to take YOUR money. But if you play, you have no chance. This dude started with $150 bucks--he now has $123--in five minutes YOU DO THE MATH" In front of THE EXECUTOR, I started asking PLAYER M&M how could take so many hands and how he could KNOW he would beat me." "How?" "How?" He finally said, "I hoped you learned your lesson and remember to never say nothing bad about my mother." Then like a school-yard bully after victory, he left quickly, with no fanfare. Now, THE EXECUTOR, this random player who showed up at this private table and I were left alone. Then PLAYER ALL-IN re-appeared, claiming he had left the room by accident and could not get back in the private room he created. But he said he was witnessing all the action and dialogue from the room, watcing as a virtual spectator. PLAYER ALL-IN seemed as confused as I by what was happening. Suddenly, player THE EXECUTOR wrote, "I am an employee of PokerRoom....what you are both doing is illegal....you are both now under investigation for scamming." "Scamming???" What are you talking about?," I asked. "This M&M asked us to go to a private room. PLAYER ALL-IN made this room. Player M&M with $1.90 chopped almost $30 bucks away from me in 25 cents, fifty, a pop. And you say I am a scammer?" PLAYER ALL-IN added he had also lost money the entire evening to Player M&M. Again PLAYER THE EXECUTOR staed we were both "under investigation" and then left. PLAYER ALL-IN and I decided this "challenge" was odd, disturbing and...over. And we too parted ways. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Does anyone know what happened to me? |
