2001 Fp + Laptop Configuration

Just got a 2001 Fp and am trying to hook it up to my Dell laptop (Inspiron 5100) for dual monitor. I go to control panel- Display - Settings and check the "extend desktop to this monitor" then click apply and ok but nothing happens.

Any insight would be appreciated.
