Default wheels of steel

When i was in highschool, a friend of mine dj'd local clubs. Alot of times i'd "assist" and i'd spend a lot of time at his place using his equipment making my own tapes. He had turntables and this unique (back then) japanese cd dj setup (i think it was called rmx-### or something)

anyways, i miss playing around with my friend's equipment and have been thinking about getting some equipment of my own to play around with. However I have no vinyl and a massive collection of cd's and now mp3's.

I'm sure cd/digital djing technology has advanced a lot since my days with the RMX.

so whats the hottest sht for digital mixing now adays, or maybe not the hottest [censored], but something functional for a basement dj who doesn't plan to really do anything but tinker around and make mixes for myself and friends.

I realize cd stuff may not be "real" however i'm unwilling to attempt to accumulate a lot of vinyl.
