Faking weakness to fool loose agressive player

So this guy has a stat of 75 VPIP, is very agressive but has been called down with virtually rags... from every position.
I played this very timidly because I thought I pretty much had a lock and didn't want to push him out of the put.
Naturally, I guess you can guess what happened...
Thoughts, would you have done the same?
