Omaha/8 low hands

I can't seem to find details on determining low hands for Omaha/8. I ran into this in a home game where my 7-5 low lost to a 6-4-5-3-2. Is it safe to say that lows are not subject to being straights and flushes? I realize that the wheel is commonly the low nuts, but is that true in 8 or better? Seems like a simple question but my local and google searches did not produce an answer for me.
