In the Home Poker discussions, one can see a lot of high-end chip discussion and those timidly asking what's wrong with 11.5g chips. The short answer is that as an entry-level product, there's nothing wrong with investing in a set of 11.5g chips for a home game. You're probably going to invest <$0.30 a chip, and might even be in the ~ $0.10/chip range. Real casino quality chips that self-describe "chip snobs" buy are going to cost ~ $0.85/chip and up.
For those who want to get into home poker at the $100-300 level not the $1000 level, 11.5g chips are a great option. For quite a few out there, $1000 for poker chips just isn't an option at all. With that in mind, I spent some time visiting as many of the online sites as I could find mentioned on the boards, on google, and in dmoz as possible, searching out all the types of 11.5g chips that were out there, and the prices being charged. Here is my 11.5g Chip Census and Price Catalog as of 20050413. Any feedback is welcome. |
