Overraising preflop

If you're playing at a no-limit game where the blinds are .05 and .10 why do people insist on raising $3, $4, $5 preflop? I don't get it. You're only going to get called by aces, maybe kings. Yippee, you've stolen the blinds. Good job. Keep up the good work. Sorry for venting, but I'm hoping some beginners read this and realize proper raises are in the .50-$1 range.
