BitTorrent

this was inspired by somebody "ignorant iPod question" post.

can somebody give me the basics of what BitTorrent is? i vaguely understand that it is used to somehow do peer-to-peer stuff, but don't really get it.

if i were to want to download a song (or TV show) using BitTorrent, what would i do?
