Default Final Table Chops/Deals

I played in a 35 person $540 live buy in yesterday. We got down to the final three and played for about 15 minutes. One guy suggested an even chop. I initially said no. IMO, the guy that suggested the chop was the weaker of the three, with the second being a solid player. We each had roughly 80,000 in chips with blinds at 5,000/10,000 and a 1,000 ante. We played a few more hands and I gave in to an even chop. In the end, I felt that with blinds that high and the steep payout structure, any edge I might have would be somewhat negated. Payout was 1st-6,000, 2nd-3,500, and 3rd-2,500. Any experiences/thoughts for either side? This was my first "deal". I'm a little uncertain of my decision this morning. What is Negreanu's reasoning for not making deals. I would assume a mix of arrogance and confidence.
