SNG vs. Live NL EV
In this post when I say worst I mean something like "least experience and knowledge of poker theory", and best I mean the opposite. This statement does not say anything about specific playing style.
Suppose a group of 10 people of different skill levels want to play a night of poker. There are two options for the evening. Option 1: Play a live NL game where everyone buys in for exactly $100. The game will go for about 6 hours. You can rebuy up to $100 if you wish at any time between hands. Option 2: Play 2 "Sit 'n' Go" style tournaments. These will have formats similar to UB, and the buyin for each tournament will be $50. The payout is $250, $150, $100. These are expected to run about 3 hours each. 1. Which option gives the worst player in the game a better EV for the evening? Which for the best player? 2. Furthermore, what factors in the games change the EV for the best and worst players? For instance, the best players EV would probably be higher with blinds of 50c/$1 in the live game as opposed to blinds of $2/$4. 3. Lastly, what overall style of players may change the EV of a particular player? For instance, will the worst player have a better EV in one option if the players are all tight aggressive and a better EV in the other if the players are all loose passive? How about for the best player? |
