Default What is the path from 1/2 to 5/10

Ok, so assume some newb has a 400 BB bankroll for 1/2. He eventually wants to play 5/10 and rake in the dough like all of the big boys.

Now, say this guy starts to beat the 1/2 game for 3 bb/100. I don't even know if that is realistic, I just started reading this forum. But, it seems like it would take a long time to build up the roll to take a shot at 5/10.

Also, what constitutes taking a shot. Would he just earn 100 BBs and take a shot and hope to jump in on a winning streak.

Or do you people usually go through the 2/4 and 3/6 full games to get here?

Also, how big is the diff between 1/2 and 5/10. If someone were crushing the 1/2, would it be a huge gamble to stake themselves with money outside their poker funds if they were big time beating the 1/2?
