Hello. The following post will contain random bad beat information, pointed bitching and other non-useful ranting. However, the ultimate point of this will be to generate discussion as to what can be done about the most prominent downfall in all of online poker, especially low limit, Hold-em.
We will limit this discussion to the games on PartyPoker. Why would ANYONE want to play 7-3 out of position for a raise? Because they're suited? What can you possibly expect to accomplish calling 4 bets after the flop with nothing more than 3 to a straight or 3 to a flush? How the hell can you justify playing any hand in the likes of K-6, Queen-7, Jack-3 etc.? And furthermore, why is this type of play rewarded with such alarming frequency? These types of hands are winning pots of larger than average size so often, it is not worth raising an unraised pot with Jacks or Queens in position, it will serve no purpose at all. You won't push anyone out and you sure as hell aren't building a pot while you're a favorite. Because you're not a favorite against 6 limpers. I know all of this is good for the game, and for someone who plays a tight aggressive patient disciplined game they can be very profitable. But they haven't been. I have burned through well over $1000 in low limit games in a short period of time, playing a style that is very profitable in casinos and home games. I am not looking to make a living at low limit poker, but to build a bankroll slowly to increase limits and such. So my question now, what can be done about these idiots catching miracle cards at such a mathmatically improbable rate? How does one deal with the suckouts and bad beats that occur at these low limit games? Should I start playing every suited queen or jack hoping I might catch a flush? And where are all these people getting their money? How do they hold on to it long enough? Why are these the ones being rewarded? OK I am done I know bad beats happen to everyone and I am not exempt from that. I can live with people improving mediocre hands to beat my slightly better hand. that happens. It's the runner-runner suckouts and shitty hands holding up against monsters on a far too common basis that has me boiling. I just lost a pot that was $112 in a 2-4 limit game. that's 28 big bets (w/ AK offsuit I raised, and yes I had the best hand preflop in a 7 way pot). So any suggestions would be much appreciated.
