Default Dewey, how does he do it??

Hi!

I´ve seen Dewey Tomko make a few final tables on the WPT. After seeing his incredibly tight play I wonder how he can get that far?! How does he amass all those chips to make the final table? If he plays that tight 6-handed how does he play at a full table..

My explanation is that they play with deep stacks and long levels, therefore he gets plenty of time to be dealt premium hands and win a big percentage of the hands he plays.

What do you think? Do any of you guys play real tight, and does it work in online tournies with shorter levels and shorter stacks?

I play with a relitivly small bankroll, what with being in college, and so I play mostly smaller buy-in tourneys (i.e. $5-10). The play down there is really poor generally speaking so I play so tight that it makes the table squeek. Seems to work for me, they never catch on and continue to pay off my hands, and then I can through in a bluff once in a wild and it usually gets respect. IU usually loosen up once we get to the final three (in the money).
Theonly real unfortunate side effect is alot of 4th finished because if the cards don't come you screwed.

Maybe he just plays tighter at the final table.

I bet he doesn't play as tight as you or his opponents think.

Yes maybe, but you have to admit that the preferred play is to loosen up a bit shorthanded? I think his tightness is pretty weird, hmm..

Of course he´s a great player, I´m just curious.

Why do you think that? Watch the WPT´s yourself and I bet that you agree he plays tight.

How many of the hands from the WPT do we even see? We see less than half of the final 6.

How many hands do you think you have seen on the WPT with Dewey?
20? 25? 30?
How many hands do you think he plays on a weekly basis?
Divide your two answers and see why it would not be statistically sound to draw conclusions.

Either way, anyone that enters every WPT event (no idea how many Dewey plays) is going to get a really good run of cards sometime. Long as he plays his hands well, which clearly he does, tight play will have success.
