Default Roy West\'s latest article

I should probably post this elsewhere, but I refuse to enter the psychology forum. . .

Anyway, here is a quote from Roy West's latest article from Cardplayer:

For some poker players, biorhythm charts have become a valuable tool for increasing their winnings. For others, they have been a source of disillusion and disappointment. And for still others, the majority, the results are inconclusive.

It's actually very simple to learn. By keeping track of winning and losing days, and charting them on your biorhythm cycles, you'll see a pattern emerging for each day of the cycle, as to whether it's a "winning" day or a "losing" day. Then, you can decide to play or not to play on any day according to the patterns. Or, you might want to increase or decrease the intensity of your play on a given "winning" or "losing" day.

Does anyone else find it disgusting that Cardplayer would print something like this? I mean what's next, the horoscopes? Do not play split pot games today, Aries, you will be quartered but good.

I think this is great. I'd rather play against people who believe this stuff, than people who study at 2+2.

Cardplayer is headed for the gutter anyway.

OK, I'm just asking for it now, but...

For those of you who practice a religion, why do you think that the rituals of your form of mysticism (completely unproven by scientific method ) are any better than the unproven mysticism of the biorhythms faithful?

This is an interesting question. I am an atheist, myself.

However, I think an interesting question would also be, how many people would think it was ridiculous if Roy West advocated praying to Al'lah (or Christ, or Shiva, or a plate of silver dollar pancakes) to give you good cards before a session.

On further reflection of your point, the nature of most religions prohibits the ability to scientifically test the effect or existance of god.

Biorhythms have been tested scientifically and have been shown to have no validity. See FlimFlam, James Randi.

At this rate, expect to see a cover story on pattern maps any day now.

Nice to see a fellow atheist here. We are quite rare, you know. Are you into Ayn Rand as well?

Although I am a fan (my Paradise handle is John Galt), I have always thought Rand's atheism to be a product of her absolute loathing of collectivism, most attributable to her attitudes on religion, as opposed to theology.

As such, I consider it the least intriguing aspect of her contribution to humanity.

All of this aside, I cannot imagine any god delivering on the prayers of those praying for a good river card.

Just as I have always wondered why all of those baseball players have to cross themselves in the batter's box.

Anyway. Bio-rhythms. Right. That's great. Please play poker based upon bio-rhythm charts. Please.
