I play a lot of shorthanded poker, and have alot of hands accumulated. However I notice more variance (unfortunately losing swings more often then not) when playing shorthanded of 4 or less players. Is it even profitable in the long run to play these games, or should I never play unless it is a 5 or 6 player table. I play 5-10 and alot of 10-20.
Comments, tips and opinions on players playing the SH game would be very much appreciated. I've read many books and I believe I can beat the game but am really struggling the last month or so with bad luck (ie suckouts, etc). I know its part of the game.... Looking forward to some input. Thanks in advance, Ivan |

they can be extremely profitable if you can tweak your game when it gets shorter and can stand the greater variance.

A bigger problem is the rake. Espcially at smaller stakes SH games, rake will eat up the profit a lot of the slim edges you will push. Still profitable, but you have to take note of it much moreso than a full-ring game.

4 handed seems much more profitable to me than full ring, but I come from a shorthanded NL background, so that probably factors in.

Depends on how hard the site rakes the very short games. There are plenty of sites where it's damn near impossible to beat the rake even against horrible opponents at the lower limits HU.
Winning poker is alot about quality time against moronic opponents. And you can't get more quality time with someone than playing him HU. |
