Help provide me some answers (tourney selection/bankroll issues)
I post more often in the STT forum, so here's some quick background on the type of poker I play. I'm a semi/mostly online professional player who's bread and butter is from STT play. But I do enjoy MTTs, and have been improving my play greatly with some excellent recent results.
I usually play 7 STTs and 1 MTT at a time (sometimes the MTT's overlap, but generally that's the average ratio). Lately, however, I've been getting a little itch to play in some big live buy-in events. You know, I wanna go to Atlantis or Monte Carlo, and maybe get on TV. I wanna little pin from the Pope. But it certainly makes zero sense for me to put up 8-12K, pay for airfare, hotel, etc. to take a shot at a big payoff considering my bankroll. I'm well aware that I ain't no high roller. So, I plan on trying some higher buyins (not just the WPT type events, but online ones as well) by entering satellites. But this will obviously affect my variance and hourly rate by taking away from my normal play. I understand there is no one correct answer to my following question. What I'm looking for from your fellow poker minds is that given my situation, and concerns that I've outlined, what ratio of my MTTs should be devoted to satellite play? I was thinking of starting with 1/3 (2 out my usual 6 MTTs per playing session). Whaddya think? Any feedback is welcome. Thanks in advance. |

If you're not going to be too upset if you win a satellite and don't cash in the bigger event and you really wanna play a bigger event, why not just play all satellites, since MTTs aren't your real income anyway?

[/ QUOTE ] Well, they're not my 'real' income, but I've come to enjoy one very significant cash or more per month. So, they're a 'part' of it. But obviously, cheap satellites to big buy-in events are extremely high variance poker investments. I think playing too many satellites would simply be too expensive to the monthly income. |
