When you have more money than you need
I'm a cheap person. I've only spent money on necessities. I'm not a big spender.
After running hot in a couple of MTT's and cash games, I now have much more money than a college freshman would need. The difference is, I don't buy much crap. Now, poker isn't nearly as fun. In fact, it wasn't as fun earlier but there was an imperative to make money for a greater level of security. Now that I have that, I dunno. I feel like I'm stuck in a grey area that's between playing poker as a job so I can pay for college, and playing poker beyond that to make a bunch of money for expensive toys. There is clearly something wrong here. Is there any sense in me to continue playing, or is it best if I just take a break from the grind of poker for a month or two? I am setting aside a little money to try and qualify for a WPT event, but beyond that I've cashed everything out. |

Re: When you have more money than you need
Give the money away. There are certainly people in this world who could use it more than you can. And if you want to screw them over, invest it in yourself. Play as a hobby. Have fun, stay in school.

Re: When you have more money than you need
You may not need this money now, but you will definately have a use for it in the future. Think: mortgage, kids, retirement, etc. Invest it and let it grow so that it has more value when it is more important.

Re: When you have more money than you need
Well put. If he really needs to get rid of it, the earlier post about giving it away also works. If it's just going to sit in the OP's Neteller account forever, it would be much better used in a thousand different charities.

Re: When you have more money than you need
I like the charity idea + the buy crap idea. I really should buy something. Oooo, maybe a new TV.
And I'll pitch in for a local charity too. Great ideas. I think a lot of it just has to do with being burn out with poker. Sooo, I'll just take a break until maybe Christmas with the whole 8-tabling 22's thing. |

Re: When you have more money than you need
Save money, if you have a couple hundred K in the bank by the time you graduate school you will be very happy about that, and will make your post-school decisions much easier.
