Poker rooms in Amsterdam?
Hi, I will be going to Amsterdam from January 1 through January 9. I know there is a Holland Casino. Does anyone know anything about it?
1) How many tables do they have 2) What stakes do they have? 3) Anything else new or interesting about playing in Holland vs. US? |

Re: Poker rooms in Amsterdam?
what follows is pretty much a repost from this thread on the archive server
You will need to pay a nominal admission fee (a couple of euros) and they will want to see identification. Bring your passport with you. You will get a small kickback for a free drink. No, drinks are not free. The Dutch don't mind your having a good time, but they want to make a profit off of it. There are multiple "Holland Casino" locations in the Netherlands, but only the Amsterdam location (near the Leidseplein) offers poker. Link to their tourney page not in English, and does not work well in Firefox. In a nutshell, it says: Poker is dealt every day from 10PM until 3AM, and Sundays they start at 4:15 in the afternoon. Minimum buy in for limit is €200, and pot limit minimum buy-in is €500. On Tuesdays and Thursdays there are €60 entry fee tournaments with €50 rebuys for the first hour. The page does not list tournament start times or payout structure. The page does not indicate blinds for pot limit. It suggests talking to the floor of the poker pit for more info. I could not find an English version of this page. When I was there, in September of 2004, on a Friday night, there was only one table of €10/20 being dealt. They allow Dutch, German, and English to be spoken at the table. |
