Loosey Goosey
The game: pot limit holdem.
What structure do you believe gives the loosest action? While reading through the archives, limon suggested a game with $1/$2 blinds, but with a $4 bring-in. Later in the same thread Phat Mack stated: "I would recommend adding a third dark bet. 1-1-2 with a $4 bring-in is a monster, yet cheap enough for anyone to take a shot at." Wouldn't the $4 bring-in actually kill action, because of the risk/reward ratio of stealing the blinds? Limon also stated: "If the casino wants to limit the risk LOWER THE BLINDS, dont cap the buy in. OR (even better) lower the blinds and make the game POT LIMIT. a $1-$1 pot limit game is EXTREMELY deceptive. a good player can average $20+ an hour in such a game. a .50/$1/$2 to go is even better one could easily avg. $40 an hour in such a game. the "to go" is the key it fools everyone and makes a $2 kill high leverage cause now its $4 to go." Do you agree with this? By "kill" does he mean the whole "win two pots in a row" thing? Rick. |

Re: Loosey Goosey
If I'm not mistaken, a $4 bring in means that although the blinds are $1/$2, that you have to 'raise' to $4 even if you wish to 'limp'. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Re: Loosey Goosey
a kill in big bet is a dark bet (straddle) that can be made from any position, also known as a mississippi straddle. the game i was referrring to at the time was a 1-2-2 5 togo game at the palace in hayward. you could straddle from any position and make it 10 to go. it seemed small but was huge. lots of players got their ass handed to them. 5k swings were not uncommon. you would not find that in a straight 5-5 game. this is the best structure for action.

Wouldn't the $4 bring-in actually kill action, because of the risk/reward ratio of stealing the blinds? [/ QUOTE ] Small blinds usually discourage blind stealing, but if you have an action game, there won't be any blind stealing, and of course you don't want any. The purpose of having an extra blind is to get an extra person stuck in the hand. Having the small blinds gives the impression of cheapness, but it is deceptive. It's really to get loose players pot stuck for $1--hard to believe, I know, but that's what happens. They are in a game with a $4 BB, but think they are in a game with a $2 BB. I also advocate unlimited sleeping and straddling, unless the game gets completely out of control. Then you might want to limit it to the kill that limon describes. With a BB-style kill, you have to decide who will have first option to kill it: UTG, Button or the first guy to throw in his money. If the Button gets to kill, it may be more like murder.
