Look. Obviously many of you don't have the right attitude to deal with this kind of thing. It's funny. Don't take the internet too seriously, it's just the internet.

Life is a big game and this is a fun sub-plot. Sit back, enjoy it, and have fun.

[/ QUOTE ]

You're right, it's only the internet and most people are just having fun with this and none of it matters much, even to the people being banned. However, you are kidding yourself if you think this isn't meanspirited. I make it a point to never get involved in this sort of thing in real life so I don't see a reason to participate online either, even if it is all a big joke.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well said. Much like the direction the Chuddo episode took when posters from here started writing some pretty disturbing comments on her web page. Fine, "its just the internet", but it is also yet another way in which we interact with the world and each other. That it is the online world doesn't excuse you from being a decent human being.

[/ QUOTE ]the Chuddo incident is much much different than this one.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, that started as a guy asking for help with a girl, turned into something very humorous and then turned mean-spirited. This one was mean-spirited in its conception.

[/ QUOTE ]ok, but you can clearly see how there is a difference though, right? I mean, people were stalking her for Gods sake.

I'm fickle, and how mean-spirited this whole thing is, is still up in the air, I think. As [censored] notes, he's just going to ban who he doesn't like anyway, so at least this way we have some input.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think it should be pretty clear why merely banning someone is not meanspirited but this competition is.

There's something in that.

That's why there should probably be a "neither," as well as a listing of the defendants' crimes. It wouldn't take the mean-spiritedness out of it entirely, but would provide context. I think how mean it is depends highly on who is chosen to be in contests. I'm assuming [censored] will have good reason for his choices, but like I say, I'm taking it on a case by case basis. If someone goes out of his way to be a jerk, I honestly think they'd be the last one either surprised at a banning or having their feelings hurt by one. If done right, the only people in the contests would be the people who were practically begging to be there. Which pretty much eliminates the meanness factor.

That's the thing -- there's a difference between real and theoretical meanness. As completely stupid as that probably sounds, it's true.

This will be added to the next one. I had actually listed why I selected both users for termination but I decided to delete that part and go with the links out of a desire to not be as mean. go figure
