AA PF
Inspired by Ed Miller's article in the 2+2 Magazine this month:
PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em, $0.25 BB (9 handed) converter UTG ($28.40) UTG+1 ($60.95) MP1 ($10) MP2 ($23.75) MP3 ($10.20) CO ($14.05) Hero ($33.25) SB ($26.95) BB ($37.25) Preflop: Hero is Button with A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. UTG calls $0.25, 1 fold, MP1 calls $0.25, 3 folds, Hero goes all-in Some notes on the villains. The BB is the epitomy of fish. AI PF w/ T4o, J7s and K3o, and this in the past ten hands. He's played every pot for the last 40 or so hands. MP1 is on uber crazy ass monkey tilt, due to losing 3 AI PF vs. BB in the last ten hands , while holding such monsters as A3o, KQo and 44. He's played every pot for the last ten hands, a major calling station. Is my play here a waste of AA? I'm thinking that the few times everyone folds are more than compensated by the time that someone calls with his Q5o. |

Re: AA PF
I tried this once a while back when it was my first hand at the table. Profit: $0.35.
Player reads notwithstanding, you're on the button; don't waste your position. If he's on monkey tilt your chances look great postflop too. And even if he calls your all-in with Q5o, he can STILL suck out on you; then who's on monkey tilt? |

Re: AA PF
This is a horrible play. Not only are you not maximizing your expected gain with your aces, you are not adding any deception to your game. How many other times are you going to go all in? If every time you go all in people know you have a huge hand, they aren't going to call with Q-5o.
Instead play aces like you would play any other hand you would raise with. Whatever a standard raise is for the table make that raise with aces. True you are going to get sucked out on a heck of a lot more because people will call. BUT you want people to call. When you have aces, everyone else has a worse hand. You don't want the whole table to call, because then you are only like a 35% favorite to win. Raise a normal raise here, anything else is bad form. One tip on raising is try to make all of your raises look similar. If you have to, raise the same amount every time. That way people will not be able to read your hand. Raise the same with 10-9 suited as you do with AA, and at least online you are very tough to get a read on. |

Re: AA PF
if you felt this particular table had a high likelyhood of calling it, then its fine.
whether your assessment is true or not, your guess is as good and probably better than mine. |

Re: AA PF
lol, if everyone calls all-in I would love it too if I had aces. You have an equity edge on the pot. Just don't be mad when you lose over 60% of the time.
