Instead of betting them with a 7 point start where they would tie if they lost by 7 points and the bet be a push, he has bet them with a 7.5 point start, so they win if they lose by exactly one TD. To compensate for this, the bookie gives him worse odds.

That he paid extra money to move the line. So let's say a game has a line of +7 (-110). You can change the line to +7.5 (-120). So for more juice you change a 7-point game from a push to a win.

The 0.5 is also called the "hook" and I think buying the hook costs 20 cents for a 3-point spread and 10 cents for a 7-point spread.

I'm going to take a guess...

When someone offers a bet at even money on a game, and gives a piont differential, they're making up for the higher likelihood of the favoured team winning by handicapping them in the wager.

Therefore at a +14.5 bet at even money for one team, when you buy a half point, they only have to win by 14 points to get your money back?

Just curious if this is correct.

If it is, how much did you have to pay for your half point?
